If you have wanted to do something meaningful for yourself and others, and if you can spare as little as two hours a week, consider becoming a member of the Hospice Team of the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern NJ (VNANNJ). As a Hospice Visitor, you can deliver comfort and companionship to terminally-ill patients and their families in your community.
The training program runs for a total of 16 hours, and prepares volunteers for the role of Hospice Visitor. The next training session will be held over the course of two consecutive weeks, on Monday and Tuesday evenings, March 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd; from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Each session will be held at VNANNJ headquarters, 175 South Street, Morristown, NJ.
Upon completion of the training course, volunteers receive assignments which accommodate their individual schedules and geographic preferences. Hospice volunteers are also invited to participate in various group activities throughout the year. For further information, please contact Alison Mazie, Volunteer Coordinator, at 973-451-4128 or amazie@vnannj.org. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, but your schedule will not accommodate these dates, please let us know so that we can work with you on a training schedule that matches your availability.

The VNANNJ In-Home Caregiver Education and Support Program provides FREE in-home
education and support to unpaid caregivers so they may improve their ability
and effectiveness as caregivers. There are no income or asset eligibility requirements
for this program.
Specifically, the program will provide:
-
A registered nurse will meet with the caregiver at their home to conduct
an initial assessment and to set up a teaching plan that will help to relieve
caregiver stress and increase caregiver effectiveness.
-
In-home instruction to enable caregivers to identify the skills needed to provide proper care,
including lifting and transferring, bathing, personal care, nutrition, disease
education, stress management, and accessing community resources.
-
Up to five professional home visits by a registered nurse, physical, speech
or occupational therapist, social worker or nutritionist to provide educational
and support services, including stress management.
The VNANNJ In-Home Caregiver Education and Support Program is made possible
through a grant received by the Morris County Department of Human Services,
Office on Aging, NJ Caregiver Initiative. Please call 1-800-WE-VISIT (1-800-938-4748) for more information.
