Medication Management

Medication management is a major concern for older Americans. In fact, more than 87% of people over age 65 take multiple prescription medications and people over age 75 take an average of eight prescription drugs on a regular basis. The VNA offers one-on-one visiting nurse consultation programs or visiting nurse consultation supplemented by MD2® electronic medication management to help anyone who requires assistance to avoid dangerous health implications that can result from the misuse or underuse of prescription medications.

More facts about the MD2 electronic medication management system:

  • MD2 is a table/desktop-sized device equipped with a programmable timer and tamper-proof cups
pre-loaded with appropriate doses of medications by a visiting nurse in compliance with individual prescription requirements
  • At medication time, the MD2 device provides signals in the form of visual reminders and audio alerts
  • Signals are repeated periodically for a specified length of time
  • If the medicine remains untaken, the MD2 device automatically dials the phone number of a family member or other designated caregiver to issue an alert
